A short video of one of our bespoke reef aquariums in Derbyshire. We installed this tank in February 2016 and since then the livestock has flourished.
This client has chosen to employ our aquarium maintenance service as they had no knowledge of marine aquariums. We visit the tank twice per month to ensure it’s running smoothly and water parameters are correct.
Are you interested in having your piece of reef in your home or business?
We recently completed this built in wall aquarium for the Birth Company located in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. The tank was commissioned as part of a total refurbishment of this now brand new, private antenatal medical practice.
Our Custom Design
This custom fish tank design incorporates an external filtration system which keeps the aquarium looking clean and free of any equipment.
Automated white and blue LED lighting illuminates the tank during opening hours and an automated feeding system ensures the fish are fed twice per day.
The Build Begins
Aquarium Theme
This built in wall fish tank houses colourful tropical fish with a rock and plant theme. The decoration was designed with a natural look at the request of our client. The fish will provide an active display and may also breed in the future.
Maintenance Service
As part of this fish tank install, our client chose to employ our fish tank maintenance service. This cleaning and husbandry service will ensure the health and cleanliness of the aquarium.
Our aquarium maintenance service is not only a ‘cleaning’ service. But also we perform checks on the tank equipment, provide fish food, add livestock if required, as well as provide advice to clients on how to improve their aquarium.

Interested purchasing an aquarium but want to get an idea as to how it will look? Ocean Life Aquatics now provide an aquarium design mock up service. Here’s one produced for a client who requested to upgrade the size of their current built in wall aquarium.
Mock ups are a great first step to provide an idea as to what a finished fish tank design will look like. We are able to supply mock up photos or diagrams with dimensions if required and even too scale. Depending upon the projects theme, we can produce the mock up with vast array of different fish, eg, tropical plant theme, rocky aqua-scape or coral reef theme etc.
If your aquarium is sitting on a cabinet or being built into a wall?
We are able to supply several mock ups each with different coloured or wood effect panels. This gives our clients the chance to try out different finishes to see which suits best. We have a vast selection of different finishes for aquariums using panels to clad the aquarium and cover access points, moreover, we are even able to edit your mock up to show different numbers and sizes of doors.
A basic mock up starts at £75. The price may rise depending upon the amount of work that’s involved, however, a quotation is provided before any works are commenced.

The build started by positioning the bare tank set up against our clients wall.
Tanks location and fireplaceThe build commences
We designed this bespoke coral system to utilise an empty fireplace to the rear of the tank. Through which we could install pipework that connects to a chiller unit. The chiller requires housing within a weather proof enclosure. This is positioned against the outside of the house but hidden from view. Temperature control is vital for a live coral reef aquarium.
The tank is positioned and levelled, then a rock aqua-scape is added. For this we used a combination of white coral sand, marine rock and branch to create a display the client was happy with.
We then turned out attention to installing the tanks life support filtration system and LED lighting.
The client budget allowed for high quality equipment. This includes pumps that run virtually silently, automation where possible and a 24/7 monitoring system.

Custom Designer Aquarium
Most reef aquariums will utilise pumps inside the display tank which are required to pump water around the tank in order to simulate waves and chaotic flow. As a result, this water movement is very important for the live corals and reef fish to thrive. Thus, on this custom tank install we have used variable flow pumps below the aquarium that suck water from the tank and return it straight back.
The pumps are programmed via our technicians phone to create random, wave like water flow.
Consequently, this type of aquarium design means there’s no pumps in the main display tank that might intrude on the finished product.
The aquarium requires a period of up to 10 weeks to mature. After which, we start adding the live corals and reef fish inhabitants.
Finally, cladding above the tank is complete to match the cabinets finish.
After which our aquarium cleaning service may commence. Aquarium maintenance services are of vital importance to a delicate system such as this.
In summary, if you do not have the time or experience to look after your fish tank we can provide a fully bespoke maintenance contract to ensure your tank is clean, healthy and enjoyable.
